Purdue Student Government Leadership Awards 2015

On the evening of April 9th, Purdue students gathered in the Union for the Purdue Student Government Leadership Awards Ceremony. Among the scholarship recipients were Honors College students Dana Smith, Allison Turner, and Sarah Barnes.
Dana Smith, a junior majoring in applied mathematics and apparel design, received the Charles O. McGaughey Leadership Award. Recipients of this award are selected on the basis of their contributions to the university and the community. The criteria is a combination of leadership and scholastics qualities. When asked how this award will aid in her future endeavors, Dana replied, “In the short term, this award helps me to finish and pay for school. Long term, I think that this award is encouragement to continue serving and leading with the community. My plans are to pursue graduate school in Public Policy or a related field in order to better understand social inequities and the ways in which policy can address them.”
The France. A Córdova Award for Leadership in Action honors a senior at Purdue who has had successful leadership roles and has worked alongside staff and faculty to move the university forward during their time here. Fitting this description, the Honors College nominated senior Allison Turner for the scholarship. Because of her strong leadership qualities, passion to better the Honors College, and excellent scholastic achievements, Allison was presented this award at the ceremony.
Sarah Barnes, another honoree from the Honors College, received the Emerging Leader of 2015 award as a sophomore committed to leadership. Sarah is an active member of Honors Leadership Council and plans to branch out to other leadership positions on campus. The Purdue Student Government president and vice president presented her with this award at the ceremony.
